We have seen the pattern. We try to communicate with another person and get him to understand our point of view only to have the other person persist in his own viewpoint or course of action. Why is this? We all believe our own viewpoint is reasonable. Deep down in our unconscious we believe other people see the world in the same way that we do. We also believe others think just like us. This is in error. Other people think and behave differently than us. So, to understand what is happening in any relationship requires two separate, simultaneous events – how one is seeing oneself and how one is seeing the other person. This is very hard to work and is not something people are familiar with.
