A misleading common assumption is that the same emotion has identical meanings for all people. This is not so. Different people perceive the same emotion differently. And, people have different reasons for the same emotion.
Over the next ten blogs I will discuss these different interpretations of ten different emotional states: crying, good humor, anger, grief, love and affection, erotic attraction, aggression, happiness, generosity and assertiveness. It is hoped you will gain a better understanding of how easy it is to misinterpret what another person feels and thinks when you do not observe and understand yourself or the other person well. You may also learn how you project your own emotions onto other people who do not feel the same way at all or, erroneously accept other people’s emotions as your own.
